Education student Neo Malewa (25) and IT Specialist Ruben Masilela (27) of Winterveldt and Soshanguve respectively, have started the Tshwane Tutoring Academy (TTA), aimed at helping school learners improve their academic performance.
In a world where everyone is trying to get education to better themselves, Mr Malewa and Mr Masilela use their education to help the community. The pair has recently launched a tutoring academy in Soshanguve Block TT clinic operating on Saturdays and Sundays only.
“Our tutoring sessions start from 09h30 until 14h30 on Saturdays and from 11hoo until 13hoo on Sundays” said Mr Malewa.
He said seeing high school pupils getting university entrance in matric inspired him to join forces with Mr Masilela and bring about this initiative.
“It made me think about all the challenges they go through in achieving those results and I believe education is the key to everything. TTA is here to help them make it in life” noted Mr Malewa.
The academy also provide one-on-one tutoring sessions, motivational talks at school, matric upgrade, educational camps, extra lessons as well as assisting needy pupils with food parcels and school resources.
All these services do not come free but at a reasonable price in order to cover the expenses involved.
“Each session costs R25 and this amount is used to cover payments for tutors, rent and stationery” said Mr Malewa.
TTA targets high school pupils especially those in grade 11 and 12 as well as those who are upgrading their matric results. Mr Malewa said the academy is not in partnership with any local school and they would be very pleased to receive any form of funding through sponsorship because they currently pay for all the expenses straight from their pockets with the help of the sessions’ fee.
Mr Malewa father explained that they plan to expand their academy to the whole Tshwane.
“We want to see TTA grow and work with the department of basic education because we believe that there can be a lot of success and distinctions.”
