Youth With Hope Movement (YWHM) netball team were crowned champions of a fundraising charity tournament in Soshanguve Block CC sports ground on Saturday, going home with winnings of a netball kit, medals and R500 in cash.
The tournament was hosted by the Donald Isaac Malukeke Charity Organisation (DIMCO) to raise funds to help the needy during winter.
“We invited the community to the event to raise funds to assist the needy and also to celebrate Women’s Month,” said Mr Maluleke, whom the charity organization is named after.
The R250 registration fee by the seven teams will be used to buy blankets and groceries for disadvantaged homes in the community.
At the games, the Mabopane based club, YWHM, was left standing alongside the likes of Klipgat and the Charismatics from Soshanguve Block VV on the final rounds.
The visitors had a tough game against the Charismatic which did not let them have an easy win.
Jane Nkolele, Captain of YWHM, said it wasn’t an easy game as they were kept on their toes until the last quarter.
“The Charismatics gave us a challenge because they kept on attacking showing hunger for goals, so we had to be focused, though it was a close win for us,” said Jane.
YWHM coach, Rebecca Makhuba said she believes that hope kept them going in this tournament and the team’s hard work paid off. “I am so grateful about the girl’s achievement,” said Ms Makhuba.
