Tshegofatso Nawa, a 23-year-old from Soshanguve is keen on making a big difference in her community. The law student is the founder of Crossroad Youth Development, an NGO that has been running for two years with the help of the other two partners, a social worker and a nurse.
She said “I was inspired by the questions I kept asking myself around factors that lead to youth doing drugs and dropping out of school to become rough elements of society.
“Together with my two partners we have so far made progress to get three boys in rehabilitation centres who are currently making their way back into the community.
“We have also managed to intervene for a 17-year-old girl who was chased away from home for being pregnant and we have reunited her with her family. These are the few successes we can mention but it is amazing that we can do these things for the community,” she said.
Ms Nawa said their future plans is to spread to the rest of the country to run campaigns and build relations with other NGOs so that they can help as many as people as they can with the support of the community.
