Residents of Soshanguve who attended the public hearing on the amendment of section 25 of the constitution that deals with the expropriation of land without compensation, said this was a useless exercise.

At the event held at the KT Motubatse Hall in Soshanguve extension 4, residents said the same meeting was held in 2018 with the same agenda but there has not been any implementation of anything that has been discussed.

The Ad Hoc committee of parliament has been conducting public meetings in order to learn from the community, how section 25 of the constitution should be amended.

The community said there is only one outcome, and that should be that the land should be given back to the people without compensation.

A local resident, Mr Africa Mabona, who is a member of the EFF, said he does not see the use of this meeting as they are going back and forth over something they should make a decision about.

“Problem with traditional leaders is that they want to keep land to themselves, as members of the EFF we want the land to be in the custody of the state.”

“This parliament committee public hearing is useless and a waste of money because the same submission was made in 2018 and nothing, has happened,” said Mr Mabona

Ms Salamina Mgidi, a resident of Soshanguve said when white people say they should be compensated for the land, who should compensate them?

“Who has the proof that they paid for the land when they took it from us? They paid no one, we cannot feel sorry for them, our children’s taxes will not be used for this because they not pay us compensation when they took the land,” said Ms Mgidi.

Mr Lawrence Matsetela, a resident from Hammanskraal ward 75 said he submitted his letter of demands in 2018 and he still hopes that although it has been a while that there will be better change and implementation once they are done with these hearings.

“In 2018 parliament was here, why are you here because you are wasting tax payer’s money,” said Mr Matsetela`
