A Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) student was shot dead outside the Propaganda club in Pretoria CBD on Thursday evening. Kamogelo ‘Skhwama’ Chiota, was a third-year student who also worked as a part-time dancer.
Propaganda released a statement confirming that indeed the incident happened outside the club. “Our management and staff are deeply saddened by this heart-wrenching incident and we send our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the diseased,” said management.
TUT students gathered outside the club last Friday morning to protest the death of their fellow student demanding justice and arrest of the perpetrator.
It is alleged that the shooter had an altercation inside the club and was thrown out of the club and waited outside and mistook Mr Chiota for the person he argued with in the club, and shot him once through the neck.
Students protested outside the club after it was reported that no case has been opened.
One of the students said the general sentiment was that Propaganda Club should pay for Mr Chiota’s funeral and compensate his family.
“The young man was set to receive his diploma which would have made a significant change in his family’s lives, the shooter robbed his family of a chance to a better life,” he said.
