Residents of Soshanguve were given an opportunity to access government services closer to home when the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Gauteng Region hosted an Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) at the SASSA Local Office in Nafcoc Shopping Centre on 19 June.

The outreach formed part of SASSA’s efforts to improve access to essential services by taking government assistance directly to communities.

Services available during the programme included social grant applications and enquiries, grant reviews and assistance for beneficiaries requiring support with documentation and registration processes.

ICROP is one of SASSA’s service delivery initiatives aimed at reducing travel costs, minimising waiting times and ensuring that vulnerable residents can access government services more easily.

The programme also aligns with broader government efforts to strengthen service delivery and improve access to social protection services.

According to SASSA, outreach initiatives create opportunities for residents to engage directly with government departments while receiving assistance in their own communities.

The programme was held during Youth Month, a period that highlights the importance of youth development, economic participation and access to opportunities.

Residents attending the outreach were encouraged to make use of available services and obtain information about programmes designed to support vulnerable individuals and families.

SASSA has indicated that outreach programmes form part of ongoing efforts to bring services closer to communities and improve accessibility for beneficiaries.

At the time of publication, responses to additional questions submitted to SASSA regarding attendance figures, services rendered and future outreach plans had not yet been received.
