SOSHANGUVE – Young footballers from across Soshanguve took to the field over the weekend in Extension 2 near Sasol Garage as part of an ANC-hosted kasi tournament aimed at promoting youth development, healthy lifestyles and community participation through sport.
The tournament brought together local teams to compete in a community environment designed to encourage discipline, teamwork and positive engagement among young people.
Organisers say the initiative seeks to provide young people with constructive recreational opportunities while helping to steer them away from crime, substance abuse and other social challenges that affect many communities.
Beyond the competition, the tournament also created a platform for community members to gather, support local talent and strengthen social cohesion.
Community sporting events such as these continue to play an important role in identifying talented players while encouraging active participation in sport. They also provide opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop leadership skills and establish positive relationships with their peers.
Although the tournament was organised by the ANC, its primary focus was on community development and youth empowerment through sport.
Residents who attended the event welcomed initiatives that create safe recreational spaces for young people, particularly during weekends when many youth have limited organised activities available.
The organisers are expected to continue hosting similar tournaments as part of ongoing community engagement programmes.
