26 year old man shoots at the police

Unlicenced fire arms and house breaking implements found by the SAPS

A 26-year-old man was arrested by the Rietgat South African Police Services (SAPS) following a shooting with the police that took place during the early hours of Monday 11 October 2021 in Soshanguve Block T.

Captain Stephen Maluleka said the police were patrolling when a suspicious car drove at high speed and when approached by the police, some of the passengers ran away after being cornered by the police van.

“The suspect opened fire and got shot in the arm and lower body after the police returned fire. None of our officers were injured during the shooting,” said Captain Maluleka.

An unlicensed firearm was found in the possession of the suspect and another in the car as well as housebreaking implements.

Captain Maluleka said the man was charged with illegal possession of illegal firearms and attempted murder.

“He will appear before the magistrate court in Soshanguve in due course. Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the remaining wanted suspects may contact Rietgat SAPS,” he said.
