Tshwaranang Community Solution has once again taken action in Soshanguve, this time partnering with Engen Garage in pursuit of its ongoing Arbor Day goal to plant as many trees as possible. The campaign continued on Monday, 21 September 2026, in Soshanguve Block L, with the aim of reducing carbon dioxide levels and easing the effects of heatwaves that make daily life difficult for pedestrians in the community.
The event was attended by City of Tshwane representatives, the Engen Garage team, and Tshwaranang Community Solution, who planted four trees around the garage as part of an effort to encourage private companies to take environmental action to reduce carbon emissions. The campaign then continued to Boitumelo Children’s Home.
Mr Moosa Zwane, retail manager at Engen, sees this as an opportunity to lend a hand in the community toward environmental change.
“As the Engen garage, we care for the environment, and we put a lot of care into our people and especially our community… an initiative that protects the environment and saves the lives of our people, we appreciate such initiatives,” said Mr Zwane.
According to Tshwaranang Project Manager Xolani Nkosi, Engen was not asked to provide funding for the initiative, but the organisation is exploring a continued, sustainable partnership with the garage. Mr Nkosi said the two parties have previously discussed the possibility of a communal garden next to the garage.
Mr Zwane confirmed the garden idea has history at the site: “The garden is something we had for our elders in the community; however, with the new developments we await and hope we can still have a piece. And the after can be a discussion.”
On the possibility of an ongoing partnership beyond this one event, Mr Zwane said: “Ongoing partnerships, yes, I think the role and the gap is huge, so a lot of our local businesses in one voice and act can put efforts in uplifting and making a lot of awareness.”
