After the horrific stories of practices from religious and cultural practitioners that has shocked the nation for the past few months, the National Heritage Council (NHC) has decided to intervene. This was after a report from the Commission of the Cultural and Linguistic Communities (CRL) was noted by the NHC and the efforts to intervene were granted.
Soshanguve Times took to the streets of Soshanguve in Block LKK to find out what local residents think about this collaboration of the two organizations.
Maria Lina who is a hair dresser believes that the collaboration between cultural and religious practitioners will in fact prevent future tragedies. “I think the collaboration will work because many pastors are crooks and their intentions are not good. There should be inspectors that should visit some churches to see what they are practicing,”she said.
However, some residence do not have faith in this collaboration. Dorcas Makua said that she does not believe that this intervention will work. “I don’t think that the people involved in those horrific incidences are fine in their minds. Most religious practitioners are after money instead of preaching the word and accept what they are given by the congregation, “she said.

Peter Radzelane is skeptical about the intervention by the NHC.
“There are some people who will continue with such practices. I don’t think they will be able to reach all pastors or any of the leaders of churches and traditional healers across all the nine provinces and bring them to book,” he said. He said that some religious practitioners and traditional healers take advantage of people’s gullibility.
