Soccer tournament to raise awareness on gender based violence

The Soshanguve FC (Under 13) organized a soccer competition to raise GBV awareness among young children where soccer clubs from as far as Mpumalanga and Marikana in the North West participated on 28 May 2022.

Soshanguve FC coach, Mr Mlungisi Tsomela, said the objective of the event was to connect young kids and raise awareness about GBV, bullying, and abuse.

“We had young people presenting motivational messages about GBV and bullying in schools.

The teams that participated were the Mpumalanga-based Football Dragons Academy, Highlanders FC from Wintervelt, and Marikana Arsenal from Marikana.

The Couch of Football Dragon Academy, Mr Hlulani Tshabalala,  said the young boys enjoyed themselves while being motivated.

“I believe we have an excellent plan to get the attention of young boys to motivate them while they are enjoying themselves,” he said.

Tumelo Mabasa (13) of Soshanguve FC said “We are happy today because we enjoyed playing with our visitors. I hope they enjoyed it as much as we did, and I hope we will have another tournament in the future because the event teaches us about important life skills,”
