Possible Cholera outbreak in Pretoria Hammanskraal area

The City of Tshwane issued out notice on Wednesday 27 June informing residents about the suspicious cholera outbreak.

Cholera is an Infection of a small intestine by some strains of bacterium vibrio cholera Symptoms may range from none, to mild, to severe. The classic Symptoms are a large amount of watery diarrhoea that lasts a few days. Vomiting and muscle cramps may also occur.

Residents from the following areas Dilopye, New Eersterust, Temba, Babelegi Industries, Marokolong, Ramotse, Majaneng, Mandela Village, Sekampaneng and most especially Hammanskraal are warned to avoid drinking tap water until further notice.

Spokesperson of Tshwane metro Selby Bokaba said that the laboratory section is currently busy on the background conducting urgent tests to determine whether water really contained cholera.

“The City has dispatched roaming water tankers to ensure continuous supply of safe drinking water to the affected residents.” Said Mr Bokaba.
