The 60 year old Ms Mittah Baloyi, from Soshanguve block P, is a self-made fashion designer who started her dream at the age of seven. She used to sew with her mother’s sewing machine when her mother was not around and grew closer to sewing and saw that she could make a career out of it.
She sews graduation gowns and is kept busy during graduation period with orders and is also into decorations and hires out traditional decors.
She kept on practising until she became perfect, every day after school she would rush home just to get busy. Years went by and at the age of 21 she got a job and was willing to save for a sewing machine with her first salary.
Luckily enough, her mother noticed that she fell in love with her sewing and gave her one of her machines. Ms Baloyi then used the money she was saving to buy more fabric and since then she has not looked back.
She became popular in the community through tailoring trousers which increased her support base and today she can also design wedding gowns, matric dresses and shirts.
She said her business is registered and she is happy with the support she receives from the community because that is what makes her business to boom.
She urged the community to support local business instead of supporting businesses from outside.
“We know that nowadays people prefer clothes from outside their communities or abroad, we however plead for community to support us because that is what will bring the best out of us,” Ms Baloyi said.
