The Gauteng MEC for education, Mr Panyaza Lesufi and the Gauteng Premier, Mr David Makhura, on Tuesday 09 April 2019 officially opened the Soshanguve Engineering School of specialisation in partnership with BMW SA.
The school will teach learners to build the new BMW X3, after the motor company donated at one model to the school.
MEC Lesufi said this is a demonstration of providing quality education to learners and inclusiveness.
The Premier added that it is encouraging that a high school will be able to focus on automotive engineering.
“The learners of Soshanguve are joining in the trends of the global community of countries like Germany, Japan, China and Brazil, of implementing practical work at high school instead of concentrating on theory,” the Premier said.
The Gauteng Department of Education acknowledge that these objectives cannot be realized without industry and private partnership that will provide learners with workplace experience, learnership, artisanship and entrepreneurial skills.
