Zanele Ratshefola (18) from Soshanguve Block BB is a BCom Accounting student at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth Eastern Cape, who has just made it to the semi-finals of the National Online Pageant Empress South Africa 2019.
The Pageant aims to empower women and the youth in all aspects of their lives to be courageous and achieve their dreams
“Being in a beauty pageant and also a full-time student is not an easy thing because there is too much pressure from a course such as BCom Accounting.
“However, because the pageant is online, I get to check my social media accounts during breaks and respond to comments and emails. By the time I go to my room, I am able to concentrate on my studies,” said Ms Ratshefola.
She said Empress South Africa is her second pageant after she did not win a pageant hosted at her high school in Lagenhoven High. She told her mother that she is not going to give up and today she has been successful at entering for the Empress South Africa.
Ms Ratshefola is also a certified make-up artist, brand ambassador for Motofind.co.za and a model engaged with charities such as Koriyeng at block GG Soshanguve and also started an organization called Giving Grace dealing with donations.
Like anyone in life, Ms Ratshelo is inspired by Tshepo Makupu who has won this contest before.
“She is proof to me that it is possible to win this contest as she is empowered and committed. She owns and manages her own beauty business and has a degree in consumer science. I would love to follow in her footsteps and own my company if I win this pageant,” said Ms Ratshefola.
