The youth of Soshsnguve has rejected registering to vote stating that even if they vote, things will not change.

Mr Karabo Lekalakala, who is part of the youth that did not register to vote in Soshanguve said, “The elderly people are still under the influence of Mandela and by default, the ANC will win the elections, it is useless to vote”

On the other hand, some of the elderly people said they also did go to check their details and that they are not sure if they will vote.

Mr Mthembu who is an elder at Soshanguve said he had already registered but he did not go to check his details. “I have been voting for the longest time ever, but nothing seems to change. Look at the roads at Block LKK, they are very bad. Even if they find an error in my details and say I don’t vote, I don’t mind,” says Mr Mthembu.

This follows the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voter registration program that was conducted during the weekend of 18 and 19 September 2021 for South Africans to be able to vote on 1 November 2021.

To curb the spread of Covid 19, the IEC also introduced an online registration for people to register and check their registration status online. The online registration closed on Monday, 20 September 2021.
