A a 22 year old female resident from Block UU in Soshanguve was charged with perjury after she reported a false rape case to the Soshanguve Police.
This after she opened a case on 15 March 2018 pressing charges against her boyfriend for allegedly raping her the previous night.
She however refused to undergo a medical examination arranged for her at the clinic by the investigating officer. This led to the discovery by the police that she had lied under oath and that the sexual encounter with her boyfriend was consensual and that she allegedly opened the case against her boyfriend because they had an argument.
She then allegedly told the police that she wished to withdraw her case, which led to her being charged with perjury and she will appear at the Pretoria North Magistrate court on Friday.
The police said they could not emphasis enough the importance of truthful information to be given under oath and said they will bring anyone who fails to do so to justice.
The South African Police Services (SAPS) of Soshanguve has sent a strong message to the community for reporting false cases.
