Usually 15-year-old boys are known to come home from school to go play soccer; this is not the case when it comes to Olwethu Deneka, a unique entrepreneur and a true definition of a young hustler.
Olwethu Deneka is from Soshanguve block G and he creates speakers “Boom box” out of recycling material and school cases. Denka started making speakers from the age of nine. Growing up Olwethu has always been a curious and a creative thinker.
“I’ve always wondered how speakers are created, I remember opening my grandmother’s speakers at home to actually see what was in them and how they are connected and from then on I started to make my own speakers at home” said Olwethu.
The 15 year old grade nine student at D.C Marivate Secondary School said creating speakers helps him stay away from the streets and he likes it because he makes enough money to buy whatever he wants without having to wait for month end to receive money from his parent.
“I make them in different sizes with different prices. They also have different features which makes the speakers much easy to use”.
These speakers include features such as SD slots, USB slots, Auxiliary, FM radio, Bluetooth and cell phone holder.
Olwethu lost his mother at the age of two (2) and ever since the young inventor has been under the care of his grandmother. He is the only child from his late mother. Growing up it was not easy for him especially because he has never met his father and does not know what a love of a father feels like. Despite all odds, not having parents have always been his motivation in life.
“I strive to be the best one day and to succeed. My grandmother takes the first priority in my life”
Olwethu said that he wishes that all boys were like him. With the time they use to do drugs and alcohol they could use that time to go out and find their passion just like I did.
“I believe we can all do anything for as long as we set our mind to it,’’ he said.
