The staff members at KFC Soshanguve visited their local charity on Wednesday 17 October
2018 this World Hunger Month to draw attention to the plight of childhood hunger.
Statistics show that over 3,2 million* children attend school classes hungry in South Africa, which greatly impacts their ability to learn. Poor health and education limit job prospects. Childhood malnutrition cuts future earnings by at least 20%*. Good health and employment breaks the cycle of poverty and ensures that every child gets a chance to thrive.
This is why the staff at KFC are passionate about collecting R2 donations towards Add Hope and showed this by visiting and supporting their local beneficiary, Good Shepherd Organisation.
The charity operates from the premises of Alliance Church of South Africa at Block JJ in Soshanguve. KFC team members chipped in and gave the charity their support by helping to prepare and serve food to the children.
KFC Add Hope donated R75,000 this year towards food for the feeding scheme where children are fed a healthy meal five times a week after school and families are assisted with food parcels.
The charity administrator, Tinyiko Donald Mathonsi, says, “Add Hope funding has brought a significant change to the programme, because initially we were struggling financially and it was difficult to provide as we were only generating funds amongst ourselves.
“Through the funding we are able now to provide for three families and 27 children each and every month,” Mathonsi said.
Cathy van Heerden, Local Store Marketing Manager, said “Even though KFC customers can Add Hope all year round, World Hunger Month in October is an opportunity to unite with our customers to take a stand against hunger and make a difference to the children of South Africa”.
She said KFC would like to double their R2 contributions this month and take a stand against hunger!
