Residents of Shoshanguve like many other communities in the country, responded to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call to stay home during the 21 Days lockdown differently.
While generally there is compliance, there are pockets of disregard of the curfew by a few individuals who still go on as if it is business as usual because of lack of law enforcement.
Some liquor outlets were still seen operating and kids were allowed to play outside with their friends. Most residents said they will comply with the lockdown rules only in the presence of state patrollers, otherwise, it will be business as usual because they felt most of their rights are trampled on by the government.
Those residents who are following protocols stayed home unpoliced behind locked doors with their children.
Essential services workers were seen to be following protocol by going to work to serve including practising health protocols at their workplaces.
The community is encouraged to follow the help plan by using gloves, masks, maintaining social distance, refraining from hand-shaking, hugging, travel protocols and sanitising hands.
