ActionSA Provincial Campaigns Manager, Mr. Abel Tau, responded to the Tshwane water crisis on 8 July 2021, and he stated that the City endangers the Health of Residents.
Mr. Tau said the City of Tshwane must urgently provide additional water tankers to communities especially after the City’s most recent water crisis. This follows the breakdown of the Palmiet pump station that has left Tshwane’s homes without water.
“It is alarming that the city’s response to this crisis has been so markedly casual. Residents have been forced into gatherings, with no social distancing, waiting for water tankers that arrive at unpredictable times, and often, with not enough water for residents’ needs,” he said.
Mr. Tau said the present avoidable circumstances are a serious health risk to the wellbeing of residents. Indeed, some residents are forced to collect water that is unfit for human consumption from wells.
“In such a dire situation, the City of Tshwane must properly implement and communicate a crisis management plan that will be of use to residents – so far, its efforts have been minimal. The current water situation in Tshwane is proof that the DA-led government is failing to get the basics right,” he said.
