The taxi council has vowed to take action against criminals involved in the murders of taxi drivers and robbing commuters.
The taxi sector took part in a motorcade from Pretoria to Soshanguve on Monday to raise awareness about the killings of taxi drivers and violent robberies.
According to the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco), Mamelodi, the Pretoria CBD, Pretoria North, and Soshanguve have been designated as danger zones for murdering taxi drivers and robbing commuters.
Santaco Tshwane spokesperson, McDonald Makata said the organizations had received a flood of complaints from commuters.
“We have instances where four drivers have been killed after being hijacked with all their monies taken away.
“The taxi industry had to stand up and put a stop to it. This is also the beginning. We just wanted to make the criminals aware that we know what they are doing so that when we deal with them, they shouldn’t say we didn’t warn them,” he said.
