Residents of Soshanguve are expressing concerns about the delay in the new roads and drainage project, which has yet to commence despite being officially launched earlier this year.

On April 1, 2026,  Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) member Tlangi Mogale and the City of Tshwane announced a R38.4 million budget for the project, which will cover almost 6 kilometres in the local area. This includes 2 kilometres of new tarred roads, 2 kilometres of stormwater drainage, and 2 kilometres of sidewalks. The project aims to benefit the community, especially given the prevalence of flooding complaints in Wards 35 and 36.

However, during a recent site visit, no construction activity was observed, which increased residents’ frustration. Promises of improvements have yet to materialise, and the community is becoming increasingly anxious as rain continues to exacerbate existing issues.

Some residents have expressed disappointment and expect immediate action from the MMC.

MMC Tlangi Mogale had also noted that the project would create employment for nearly 100 community members currently unemployed, thereby significantly enhancing local infrastructure. Yet, the community is still waiting for updates from both the Committee and the City of Tshwane regarding the actual start date.

According to sources who did not want to be named, the project may begin around May, with a completion deadline set for next year, 2027. Residents hope progress will be made soon.
