A concerned youth from Soshanguve has started a non-profit organization (NPO), Initiative Youth Development Program (IYDP), out of concern of the deteriorating conditions of the youth in his community.
The Initiative Youth Development Program will officially launch on the 20th of July 2019 at Word of Faith Community Church at block T Soshanguve 0152.
The NPO was started in April 2018 with the aim of changing the lives of Tshwane youth particularly Soshanguve.
IYDP assist youth with digital information, teach how to apply online for jobs and university and helps the community to be independent in using ITC.
Mr Koketso Chuma, the executive director of the organization said when they started this organization they wanted to mentor the young who are still at school from grade seven to grade 12, to help them in choosing subjects wisely and also to offer extra classes.
“Skill development is one of the essential ingredients for South Africa’s future economic growth as the country transforms into a diversified and internationally-competitive economy.
“Skill development is going to be the defining element in South Africa’s growth story, firstly, we need to re-define the relationship of education, employment, and skills development. Secondly, as a very large population, South Africa would never be able to upskill all of its youth across the country through the conventional education framework.
“Most people cannot respond to Information Communication Technology (ICT), most parents struggled last year when they had to apply for their children through the Department of Education online portal. Some even forgot their passwords, we had to intervene and help them,” said Koketso Chuma
A student, Romeo Sibiya, said the NPO works as they helped him to get accepted at the University of Johannesburg.
“I was provisionally accepted, so yeah! the youth development program helped me a lot and I can’t thank them enough,” he said.
