After spending more than 20 years living in a shack, 97-year-old Elizabeth Kekana from Soshanguve Block TT received a house from AfriBiz investment in partnership with Collen Mashawana Foundation.

The house is alleged to be one of the houses left unfinished by an unknown construction company that was building houses in the area.

The situation of the houses not finished, left the old lady with no option but to spend her life in a leaking and devastating shack together with her daughter.

AfriBiz and Collen Mashawana Foundation came in to intervene and took the initiative to build a house for Ms Kekana.

Speaking to Soshanguve Times, Mr Collen Mashawana said he was asked by the members of the community of Soshanguve to assist Ms Kekana after the Foundation previously handed over two houses to two elders in the area in celebration of Mandela Day.

“After meeting with the community and checking the condition of the house, we were able to intervene. We have now completed the house and installed electricity, running water and we have also given her furniture and beds.

“Ms Kekana also has house insurance in case anything bad happens to her house,” said Mr Mashawana.

He said the Foundation will donate more houses not only in Soshanguve or Gauteng but also in other provinces where the elderly, homeless and the disabled have no roof over their heads.

Ms Kekana felt grateful for the house, “I can now sleep peacefully, I never thought I will see a day where I get out of that shack, I am so grateful for all the people who came forward to help, particularly AfriBiz and Collen Mashawana Foundation.

Ms Monica Malope, the 71-year-old daughter of Ms Kekana was also delighted about her new home with her mother, saying she never thought that one day their prayers will be answered.

Afribiz and Collen Mashawana Foundations have donated four houses in Soshanguve with a total of seven houses in Tshwane for this year only.
