not have sanitary pads.

“As the youth of Soshanguve, I think it is important for us to help each other with the challenges that we are facing as a community, lack of a sanitary pad is one of the major issues that the young girls of Soshanguve are facing,” he said.

One of the ladies who partnered with Mr Mapitsi, said that she was able to buy herself sanitary towels which is a privilege that young disadvantaged girls don’t have.

“When I think of young women who cannot do that for themselves, it breaks my heart.

“I remember this one time I forgot to get myself a packet of pads for the month and I was stranded with nothing to use to prevent the bleeding and at that moment I thought of girls who have to deal with this kind of situation every month and that is what made me to be involved in this campaign,” she said.

Mr Mapitsi said the Sistahood Sanitary Drive will be held every year on the 9th of August to collect sanitary pads from community members for distribution to needy girls.

“This year we were able to fill up two sacks which is more than what we expected.

“We will be donating the pads to Takgalang secondary school in block P,” Mr Mapitsi said.
