The business that started as an idea, is today a profitable business

Philemon Diale and Mpho Tshabalala are running a poultry farm in Winterveldt which they say they started because of lack of income-generating activities in their area and today it is proving to be profitable.

Mr Tshabalala said the ideal to go into poultry farming came one festive season when they had no money or anything to do and they thought about the many ways that people will be using poultry products during the festive season.

“We decided to sell eggs and chicken as we know that most community members were going to buy them and the idea was a success,” he said.

The farm that was started last year November initially as Elaid Poultry Farm and then renamed Tshepo Marotola, is now successful and aims to benefit the community not only with poultry supply but also with skills development.

“We want to empower the community because we have learned that poultry is very profitable,” said Mr Diale.
