The Shakamara Heritage and Furaha Foundation in partnership with Brand South Africa and the Nnusi Gazi Foundation handed school uniform to pupils at the Rekopantse Primary School in Mabopane on Wednesday 04 March 2020.

Ms Anna Sekhuthe -Principal of the Rekopantse Primary School said she appreciates the donors who engage themselves to handing-out uniform to the underprivileged children of the community because some of the learners attend school with torn shoes and torn clothes.

“Some end up dropping out because they do not have a uniform, we really appreciate the donations,’ Ms Sekhuthe said.

Heritage activist from Shakamara and an organizer of the event, Mr Lesego Komane, said of importance is seeing an African child has a smile on the face.

“It is important to us, as much as we address so many issues in the country, we always say the future of the country is in the hands of the youth.

“When we prepare a young mind at an early age, we are enabling them to handle the future brightly,’’ Mr Komane said.

The Ambassador of Play Your Part, Mr Nnusi Gazi, and the Founder of the Nnusi Gazi Foundation said his organisation chose to work with Rekopantse Primary School because, “Education is very important to us as a Foundation when we received a request to come and assist with school uniform, we felt that we have a responsibility towards our own community and raised as much money as we could to buy uniforms for as many kids as possible,’’ Mr Gazi said.

Member of the School Governing Board (SGB), Ms Itumeleng Netshandama, said, ‘‘Our school carries a lot of learners that are household headed.

“We are in a community where unemployment is very high and our school is a non-paying fee, so we appreciate the donations and need more because there is a serious problem of lack of uniforms in our community,’’ said Ms Netshandama.
