The Tshwane Department of Health calls on people of Tshwane to volunteer for the vaccination campaign.

Counsellor Sakkie du Plooy, the MMC of Health in the City of Tshwane, said he fully supports the initiative of the Department of Health to involve the volunteers to speed up the vaccination drive.

“An increased number of sites requires more personnel, that is why the assistance and involvement of volunteers are crucial for the vaccination sites to function effectively.

“The active Covid-19 cases in Tshwane are at its lowest since the last month and the city’s recovery rate is 92% showing that the city is doing well in fighting the third wave,” he said.

Although, the Counsellor says that it is not the time for the people to let their guard down.

“That is why the city is looking for ways to have more vaccination sites for people to receive their vaccine. The Vaccines4HealthCareWorkers (V4HCW) platform was created for people who are encouraged in volunteering to register and those who are interested can visit https://v4hcw.co.za/.

“Citizens can also contact Dr Kerry Matthews at kerrymatthews@gmail.com to get more information on the functions, responsibilities and opportunities regarding volunteers. The healthcare workers are still involved in vaccinating people while the volunteers are involved in providing support functions like administration, patient screening, information sharing and marshalling,” he said.
