The Neighborhood Patrol Unit hosted a Drugs Awareness Event at Baliseng Junior Secondary School to help to eradicate crime in Soshanguve.

Mr Katlego Tsotetsi, chairperson of the Neighborhood Patrolling Unit said the aim was to educate the students about drug abuse and the dangers of doing crime including bullying.

“We learn of the challenges facing students every time we engage with them and teach them to be open up and speak up, especially if they are being abused at home or elsewhere,” he said.

Another member of the Patrol Unit, Karabo Mopelo, said crime has declined since the inception of the Unit in March 2021.

“We teach the learners about things that will lead them to use drugs and being involved in crime to help them to cope,” he said.

Lesedi Moloi, one of the students said the Patrol Unit is helping because at their age they are most vulnerable and he wished people who are into drugs and crime got the same mentoring when they were young.

“We wish such coaching was a daily thing as it would benefit them immensely,’ he said.
