Two Tanzanian men were arrested by The Tshwane Metro Police (TMPD) Drug Unit in Soshanguve on 21 June 2022.  The Suspects who are between the age of 27 and 37 years old were found with heroin (nyaope) and crack cocaine (rocks) with an estimated street value of more than R75 160.

Ms Gosi Maubelo speaking on behalf of the SAPS said the objective of the police is to end to narcotics operations in the area.

“Drug dealers will continue to be arrested and I hope the community will also join us in our efforts to keep the community safe and clean of drugs,” she said

Ms Matsidiso Gaugelo Nyathi a drug survivor said she was one of those drug users who managed to escape from that life.

“I was using deadly narcotics, some of which these suspects were selling, but I’m glad I managed to escape and I’m now reborn. I’m glad that the police are working hard to keep our community safe, but what surprises me the most is that the sellers are foreigners. It is extremely sad because we welcome these people as our brothers and sisters only to find that they are actually here to kill us.

“I used to oppose Operation Dudula but I feel compelled to support it because it appears foreigners exploit our generosity in order to murder us,” she said

Another community leader, Ms Ronewa Mukhari said the police performed an excellent job, and the community appreciate their efforts.

“I hope they continue to arrest more people, including the drug users because they steal from our homes to feed their addiction.

“As a community, we must support the work that the police are doing because this is our community, but there are organizations working hard to ensure that the community is safe, and we value their efforts as well. If we can come together and work with the police, we can put an end to drug use in this community,” she said
