Ward 33 hosted a memorial lecture at Falala Community Hall in block F on 24 September 2019 to honour the late Councillor Paul Mgidi who died 22 years ago after suffering from cancer.

Mr Mngidi was the ward councilor of Ward 12 which is now known as ward 33 in block F.

Ms Dolly Ledwaba, the former councilor of ward 33 organized the memorial lecture because she said the late Paul Mnigidi is one of the many councilors who did good things for residents of Soshanguve and deserves more than a street name.

“The Falala Hall must be renamed after him,” she said.

This is the first fallen councilor that is being honored and other fallen councilors will soon be honored in a project that is in discussion with the municipality. Part of the discussions includes a burial site for fallen councillors of Ward 33.

The sister of Mr Mngidi, Magret Mngidi, said “when we were growing up, my brother never showed sings that he will become a politician.

“All that changed when we moved to Soshanguve in the early 1980s and he started to love politics more than school and it took him five years to complete a three-year diploma.

“He never used his diploma as he became a councillor of Soshanguve ward 12 at the time.

“We are very grateful that ward 33 opened their hearts and honored my brother in this way, I am sure wherever he is now he is smiling,” Ms Mngidi said.
