Mr John Molepo (29) became the youngest student to obtain a Doctoral Degree in Public Affairs

History was made at Tshwane University of Technology on 9 October 2019 when Mr John Molepo (29) became the youngest student to obtain a Doctoral Degree in Public Affairs.

Originating from the dusty streets of Soshanguve block L, he is a lecturer and founder of the #Thusangwanageno initiative that helps students with registrations fees.

Mr Molepo he started university in 2008 strictly after matric to do his national diploma, Btech and Masters without taking a break.

“I then took a three-year break before I did another two years at the university to get my PhD.

“Although I experienced challenges in my journey of obtaining my PhD, I kept on looking ahead at what I want to achieve,” he said.

He is committed to community development and that is the reason he started the #Thusangwanageno initiative that has assisted over 200 students with tuition and registration fees.

“The initiative gets funds from donations and we also stand at the robots and ask for money from motorists.

“I want to promote the spirit of reading and writing in Soshanguve as it is the fifth-largest township in the country but it has a few libraries.

“Libraries should be more than pubs in the township to stop the worship of alcohol,” he said.

He has also applied to one of the international universities to study for his second Doctorate.
