Residents of Soshanguve hope for better service delivery under the new administration, to be elected in ninety days.
This follows the visit by MEC of health, Dr Bandile Masuku, to the community of Soshanguve at Halala community hall in Soshanguve block H last Wednesday 11 March 2020 to engage them as the provincial executive council decided to place the city under administration, Following a council meeting on the 4th of March 2020.
It is the responsibility and obligation of the provincial government to create stability and ensure continuity of service delivery in the city as stated in the constitution.
In his speech, the MEC said the provincial government has raised a number of issues with the municipality of Tshwane for the past three years and these issues have not been attended to.
He said the city is currently incapable of carrying out its constitutional obligation.
“The municipality does not have a mayor and there is no municipal manager,” said MEC Dr Masuku.
Service delivery is a serious issue in the local wards of Soshanguve, he said the province is aware of incomplete constructions in the community.
Community members also complained about nepotism in the City and lack of communication.
Ms Johana Mogwase from Soshanguve Ward 25 complained about the municipality not caring and serving the community as they are supposed to.
“We are unemployed and we have been suffering for a long time, our water meters are not working properly. The City promised to help the indigent, but as we speak now, I am living in the dark without electricity,” said Ms Mogwase.
MEC Masuku said the Province embark on the outreach so that they can speak to the community directly and to gather information on the challenges faced by the community.
“The issues faced by the citizens will give the officials a proper guide on what they should concentrate on, we now have a clearer picture of what to concentrate on,” said Dr Masuku.
