Residents of Soshanguve Extension- 14 are concerned about their health because of overflowing sewage. According to community members, the sewage has been flowing for quite a very long period even before the initial lockdown.

According to Mr Cedric Chidzambwa (42), who is a resident of Soshanguve Extension- 14 and not living far from where the sewage has burst,  the community is frustrated by the situation because the municipality is not attending to it, “our health is at stake here, more especially children who might decide to play with the spilling sewage water.’’

“We are lucky that we are on lockdown, otherwise we would be having problems with the children, this must be fixed as soon as possible, otherwise our health is in danger,” Mr Chidzambwa said.

A domestic worker and a mother of three children, Ms Elisa Mabasa (33) who is also a resident of Soshanguve Extension- 14, said the smell of the sewage is unbearable, “I also do not wish to see children playing next to this sewage, as I witnessed previously on my way home from work.

“This sewage looks very risky because sometimes it flows like a river and children might drown or even fall sick,’’ Ms Mabasa said.

Ms Audrey Mafela (47) – An informal trader said it is difficult to deal with the lockdown and the sewage.

The municipality is failing us in providing basic services, they cannot even repair a sewage pipe,” Ms Mafela said.
