While South Africa is still in the lockdown trying to curb the spread of the coronavirus, residents commented on the effectiveness of the lockdown in relation to statistics released every day.
Ms Tshepiso Leshabane (23) a student at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) from Soshanguve- Block H, said the lockdown has been effective, “we would have had more confirmed cases and deaths if the lockdown was not implemented.
‘‘The virus spread by coming into contact with the person who has it or by touching surfaces which have been contaminated with the virus. So staying at home helps to lessen the spread of the virus’’ Ms Leshabane said.
Mr Thabo Nkosi, from Soshanguve- WW and a third-year student at the TUT said the lockdown is very effective, it was able to reduce the number of people who were going to be infected by the virus,’’
‘‘The lockdown has affected people with no income negatively as they were not able to buy enough food to stay indoors,’’ Mr Nkosi said.
Ms Daphne Mampheu, a mother of two, said while the lockdown has been able to slow down the rapid spread of the virus, she believes a lot still needs to be done because there might be people who have not been counted.
Mr Donald Sephuma (33), a Taxi driver from Soshanguve Block TT, said, “the problem is that every day we see new virus infections on the news, so for me, nothing has changed.’’
An Entrepreneur from Soshanguve- Block K, Ms Wendy Moila (29) said ‘‘the lockdown may become effective in the next coming days if people follow the rules properly.
“It is not becoming more effective because most South Africans are struggling to adhere to the rules of the lockdown.’’ Ms Moila said.
Mr Unity Moshoe (28), a Police Officer from Soshanguve- Block K, said, “the lockdown will be more effective if more people can follow the protocols, for now, a lot of people are failing to stay at home”.
