South Africa celebrates Heritage Day on the 24th of September every year. On this day, people celebrate their culture and diversity of their beliefs in traditional. They also wear their traditional clothes and eat traditional food. People of Soshanguve share their ways of celebrating their heritage day under the lockdown restrictions.

Ms Kate Tshabalala from Soshanguve block VV said she celebrated her heritage day indoor since there are restrictions in South Africa. “I celebrated my heritage day at home with my family since there is a lockdown, we could not go out due to Covid-19 pandemic,” said Ms Tshabalala.
Ms Sinethemba Khumalo from Soshanguve UU said it is normal like other days as they are now used to celebrate events under lockdown regulations.
“We celebrated our cultural heritage like we used to, though following the regulations, wearing of masks and practicing social distancing make it a bit difficult.
“It feels good to practice our cultural ways of life since it is not on daily basis to practice our culture, traditional food, our attire, and our dance that reminds us of where we are coming from. The day was well celebrated,” said Ms Khumalo.
Ms Sthokozile Ndlhovu from Soshanguve block L said the heritage day was enjoyable.

“I did enjoy the day too much, even if we have to keep distance to each other and put our face masks, the day was great and enjoyable as we all did as our president requested,” said Ms Ndlhovu.
