City of Tshwane launched a road and stormwater project in Soshanguve Block FF on the 31st March 2021. Residents of ward 26 in Soshanguve Block FF have been experiencing road and stormwater challenges which resulted in flooding of the properties during rainy seasons.

MMC for Roads and Transport, Ms  Dikeledi Selowa, said that she is very grateful to be given an opportunity to launch a road and stormwater project and to address these issues.

“The project is aimed at alleviating flooding of properties in the area by providing quality roads and stormwater infrastructure,” she said.

Ms Selowa said the project will cost R19 million for the construction of 1 432km of internal roads from gravel to asphalt and 1 586km of sidewalks, as laying of 1 341 of stormwater pipes ranging from 450mm to 825mm in diameter.

“The project will benefit the community of Ward 26 by creating job opportunities for the local community including youth and contracting local subcontractors to build kerbing, manholes, junction boxes, and sidewalks,” she said.

The City appointed Dolly Construction – Mphothopeni JV as the main contractor that commenced with the project in March 2021 and is expected to complete in February 2022.

Ms Selowa said she wants to call on the community to protect the project from anyone with ill motives to stop the project.

“I have also emphasized the importance of barricading the trenches to avoid any injuries and ensuring that the contractors adequately secure the sites,” she said.
