SABC 1 announced the launch of its new comedy-drama series, DiChipi by JiK’iZinto, set to air on Thursdays at 18:30, starting on 17 October 2024.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Soshanguve and Mabopane, DiChipi by JiK’iZinto follows three unlikely friends who find themselves in a precarious situation after a chaotic night threatens their community centre’s future. This event kickstarts a journey of self-discovery, collective growth, and resilience as they strive to save the centre from closure due to their actions.

The series tackles pertinent issues faced by today’s youth, including mental health, sexuality, and economic independence, all while navigating the pressures of family, academics, and complex relationships. The trio’s greatest fear is not just the loss of the centre, but the possibility of failing to achieve their dreams.

The show delves deep into themes of family, identity, and love, emphasizing the importance of friendship and self-determination.

A Collaborative Effort

Co-created with South African youth and supported by “Girl Effect”, an international non-profit organization, JiK’iZinto aims to inspire and equip young people to make informed life choices. The initiative leverages music, multimedia content, and digital platforms to engage with youth on crucial topics such as mental health, relationships, sexual and reproductive health, and career guidance.

Episode Highlights

The series will feature a total of 13 episodes, with the first episode titled “Girls Wanna Have Fun” airing on 17 October. Following episodes will explore various themes:

– Episode 2 (24 October): Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda – Nthabiseng faces the repercussions of her actions while Grace struggles with her future.
– Episode 3 (31 October): You Know The Vibes – Secrets are revealed as Nthabiseng confronts her fears both on stage and in love.
– Episode 4 (7 November): All The Small Things – A video mix-up leads to chaos, testing Nthabiseng’s comedic skills.
– Episode 5 (14 November): Complicated – Nthabiseng grapples with her feelings for Sthe amidst escalating emotions.

The series will continue to explore the characters’ growth and challenges through the subsequent episodes, culminating in an exciting finale in January 2025.
