Rand Water has estimated the time of repair and full restoration of water pumping capacity by Sunday 11 July 2021 The water utility said the plant is recovering from the explosion that took place on the evening of 03 July 2021 at the Palmiet Booster Station that has affected Tshwane and other metros.
Justice Mohale of Rand Water said the pumping system has recovered from 55% to 70% and the remaining two-thirds of required volumes are still subjected to repair work that is still underway. The water utility has managed to get an extra pump up and running but their system still has a shortfall of 300 megalitres to be fully operational.
Mr Mohale said the recovery of this load has stabilized and improved some supply of water in some areas of the three metros affected.
“Rand Water continues to work around the clock to recover the remaining loads and restore the system to full pumping capacity,” he said.
While Rand Water is working on the motor that exploded, the City has distributed water tankers to affected areas in the south of Region 4 like Olivenhoutbosch and extensions, Rua Vista, Thatchfield, The Reeds, Kosmosdal and portions of Louwlardia and Monavoni. An additional 10 water tankers were distributed to some parts of Region 4 which were Rosslyn, Soshanguve, Mabopane, Winterveldt and Ga-Rankuwa as 22 tankers were distributed yesterday.
Mr Selby Bokaba, Director Communication at the City of Tshwane issued a statement yesterday stating that their reservoir levels are running low and might eventually run dry as this situation leads to inevitable water supply interruptions and that their quest is to ensure that people have water.
Mr Bokaba cautioned some of its residents in Region 1 to stop drawing water from the fire hydrant.
