A commemoration will be held at the Soshanguve High Mast light in Block X on 10 November 2018 to remember the children who died last year after a high mast fell on them.
The horrifying incident took place when six children were playing outside in the concrete slaps when the Apollo high mast light ring fell down unexpectedly and instantly killed four of the children with the fifth child dying later at Dr George Mukhari hospital. The sixth child, Thembeka Mgciwa 9 lived to tell the tale.
The community will be involved in a Candlelight Memorial Prayer that will be held on the 17 November 2018 at the same site where the accident happened.
This will be the centenary to remember Kearabile Baloyi 12 years old, Boitsoko Pobabe 11 years old, Maikano Khoza 9 years old, Lethabo Matibako 9 years old and Dimpho Bopape 5 years old.
Each and every member of the community was very angry, stunned and even devastated by the incident. They even took an action by going to the City of Tshwane doing a follow up wanting to know exactly what happened and they even requested the mast light to be removed, but even today it is still there. The City Of Tshwane earlier said the area remains a crime scene until the police and the department of labour issue a report of what happened.
As for the families they are still demanding a full explanation of everything that happened and they remain traumatized by the accident scene.
“Being a parent and losing a child is not easy. The government never took any action in trying to pay attention to our concern and trying to fix and deal with the course of the incident.
“The commemoration is organised by us as parents with African National Congress, ” said one of the parents, Mr Pule Mmemu.
