Mr Dion Legodi owns a music studio that is based in Soshanguve block DD next to Matsemela high school. He aims to help young inspiring artists around Tshwane with the studi.

“Considering the amount of talent there is in Tshwane, it felt right to launch the studio here,” he says, adding that he felt that it is much of a need to have a studio here considering that studio equipment is expensive.

“Artists find themselves having to travel far for professional sound, having the recording company locally simplifies things for all of us.

“Having the studio up running was not easy but things have a way of falling into place when you are clear about what you want and willing to give it all.”

With help from a friend, Mr Bongane Mhlabane, who heard Glash who is Disl productions first artists talk about his music career, right there, Mr Mhlabane told Glash about Disl productions and that is how they got their first artist.

The studio has been operational for over two years now and they have more than five artists working under Disl. Mr Legodi believes that if you have a clear vision of what you want the doors will open.

“Have a clear vision about what you want, do not allow yourself to worry about how it is going to materialize, do your research on the subject and its requirements,” he said.

Disl productions partnered with Mr Jonny Maponya on a project where they dealt with substance abuse as a way of giving back to the community.

“The idea was to spread a message in a song that says regardless of what you are going through right now, we still care as there is still hope for those directly and indirectly affected by drug abuse.”

Mr Legodi said that the main challenge that stands out for them, not just as a studio but as a black local business, is support from our own people. He said that people have a tendency of supporting a foreign business rather than to invest in a local venture.

“I am not sure if these are the aftereffect of the apartheid system that we are still recovering from or what?

“But there is no sufficient self-love among us. We need to learn to build each other for our own benefit.”

He also said that like most businesses they are in need of financial assistance.

“The vision is huge, there is a lot to do, our only restriction right now is funds to put our plans in motion.

“All industries have their own challenges, the music industry is no different,” Mr Legodi said that “the only problem with those in this industry is that they turn to choose paths that are not destined for them and as a result fail at it and to turn to say it is challenging.”

Disl productions aim to have at least 15 artists by the end of 2023

“All artists under Disl productions should at least have a minimum of 3 singles, 3 albums, and 3 music videos per year. Think of Kalawa Jazmee to get a good picture of what we are building here but bigger,” he concluded.
