Extension 13 residents are leaving in fear after the Department of Housing left an unfinished road unattended eight months ago.
The residents fear that they will be electrocuted because the road gets filled up with water when it rains and the electrical wires have been left exposed.
Children in the area are also exposed to the danger of falling into the holes left unattended by the municipality.
Ms Mokgadi Motsoko, a resident in the area blamed the municipality for not learning from the accident that took place in extension 10 last year where a child died after falling into a hole left unattended by the municipality.
“We now fear for our children because last week my own child was inside a pit and up to today, I thank God for getting me there on time to save my child,” Ms Motsoko said.
The residents said road construction was initiated and later stopped eight months ago leaving residents with a damaged road.
Mr Thomas Sekhawlelo, a resident said even electric cables are being stolen as a result of the incompetence of the municipality.
“My neighbour has fallen victim of the crime and he had his electricity fixed but the poles might fall on us anytime,” said Mr Sekhawlelo.
Ward councilor in the area, Mr Sankie Ntohla, said he has tried helping by contacting the Department of Housing to inquire about the matter but with no success.
“This is a project of the Department of Housing so they should solve the problem and indicate why the project halted.
He said he has spoken to the Department himself and there has not been any development or explanation why the project is incomplete.
This is a developing story…
